Sue Paterson-Jones studied under Lamar Crowson and Albie Van Schalkwyk at UCT where she received a number of prizes and scholarships. After graduating from her Master’s degree in piano performance cum laude, she was awarded a scholarship to study under Vladimir Viardo at the University of North Texas, during which time she was in demand both as a chamber musician and vocal coach. Sue maintains a private studio alongside teaching at St Cyprians and she performs regularly with a number of chamber groups in Cape Town. She also acts as an adjudicator for the Afrikaans Eisteddfod. Her interest in piano pedagogy has led her to the Taubman approach – a comprehensive system based on teaching healthy piano technique. She has been accepted onto their New York based certification program, where she travels regularly to attend workshops and lectures.
