Gerda has been interested in felt making for many years before she got the opportunity to learn the basics skills from one of South Africa’s leading textile artists. She developed her skills over many years by practising and attending master classes in Europe and elsewhere.
She learned to work with many different types of wool and truly experienced the magic of felt making. Gerda says that wool is not only a fabric, but can be crafted three dimensionally into many shapes and forms.
She will surprise you by showing off the wonder of handmade felt with a hands-on demonstration. Attendees will be able to see and handle wool in its raw and unprocessed form and experience how it is transformed into a soft flannel-like fabric that has many uses.
