Izanne Wiid

Sculptor

Sculpture engage with real space through its physical material, becoming a language of construction and destruction, acting as reparation, a restoration in the literal as well as figurative sense of the term.

I use traditional materials such as marble, wood, steel, bronze and concrete.

My sculptures are tactile, semi-erotic and transgressive; commenting on ‘DIRT’ – that which threatens established cultural categories, such as the division between male and female, human and animal, public and private. ‘DIRT’ is an offence against order, against the categories that help promote social stability.

I also comment on the capacity to share or recognize emotions experienced by another sentient or fictional being. One may need to have a certain amount of empathy before being able to experience accurate sympathy or compassion.
My sculpture embodies (pathos); ‘passion’ or ‘suffering, (Einfuhlung); ‘feeling into’, and transgress Alexithymia; ‘without words for emotions’.
