Essentially a mixed media artist, Monique Day-Wilde has been making art, one way or another all her life. With a background in Textile Design and large format hand weaving, she completed a number of commissions including those for Hewlett Packard, Commercial Union, The council room of the OFS Technikon and the Tyler Building at Ondestepoort Veterinary College, University of Pretoria.
Monique has had a solo exhibition of hand woven tapestries at the SA Association of arts in Pretoria. She has participated in a number of group exhibitions in Cape Town, including the ‘Miniatures’ exhibition at Rust-en-Vreede and ‘Tiny Treasures’ exhibitions at Art.b, Belville in 2014 and 2015. She has also been a finalist for numerous juried exhibitions including the Vuleka held every year at Art,b, and was winner of the ‘Book Arts’ competition there in 2014. She was also a finalist in the Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Tondo competition in 2015.
The author/co-author of 10 art books, many of them translated and distributed around the world, Monique has joined the ‘colouring book for adults’ craze and produced 2 colouring books of her own, and is working on two more.
More seriously, Monique is currently working with local and indigenous flora, fauna and seaweed, producing delicate monotype prints which she embellishes with stitching often integrating them into mixed media paintings.
